We have had a fantastic start to Year 1. This week we have enjoyed exploring our new classroom and finding out what we are learning about. We have started thinking about our new topic and thought of questions together that we will investigate over the half term.
WC 12th September
Year 1 have had a very busy week! We have been practicing our handwriting in our brand new books and the homework that has been handed in is absolutely fantastic.
W/C 19th September
This week the children had the chance to write their poems and they really did impress themselves and their teachers. Everybody tried so hard and felt proud. On Friday afternoon it was 'Open Afternoon' and the children had the chance to design their perfect village, town or city with the parents. Here are the finished results. We will use these to plan towards our final outcome...
W/C 26th September
The children have been working very hard this week to innovate their poems and we have been learning about how to describe different things using adjectives. The children have also completed their hot task in Maths and this showed some fantastic progress in our 'Number and Place Value' topic- well done year 1! On Friday afternoon we went on our first Forest Walk and we LOVED it! We used our identification sheets to find different types of insects.
W/C 3rd October
We have had another brilliant week in Year 1. This week we have written our innovated poems and we have moved onto a new unit in Maths - addition and subtraction! We have been working hard to find number bonds to 10 and solve problems using what we have learnt. On Thursday afternoon we visited Bilsthorpe Heritage Museum and enjoyed finding out about how miners used to live and work.
W/C 10th October
This week has been fantastic! Our box models for our final outcome are well under way and the children are really excited about them. We enjoyed our second forest walk this Friday and investigated different types of leaves. We even had the chance to do some leaf printing.
In Maths we have been working on adding and taking away and the children have really impressed me with their enthusiasm and hard work. Keep it up Year 1!

We have had a very busy Friday this week. We shared our final outcome with our parents which was an amazing model village:

W/C 31st October
What a fantastic first week back after half term. We have started our new topic and the children are very enthusiastic to learn all about Guy Fawkes.
The school Bonfire night on Wednesday was AMAZING and all of the children who attended thoroughly enjoyed it.
We have been working on our sentence punctuation this week and started a shape unit in Maths.
W/C 7th November
This week we have started writing our report about Guy Fawkes and the children have really impressed me. We looked at the features of a report and used our text map to help us. We have also finished our shape unit. The children really enjoyed the shape challenges this week. Well done Year 1!
W/C 14th November
This week was anti-bullying week and we have learnt about what bullying is and how we can stop it from happening. We also made some rules about how to stay safe online. On Friday we had a fantastic day for Children in Need. The children dressed up in spotty clothes and we had a cake sale to raise money.
W/C 2nd December
Year 1 and 2 have been working very hard on their Nativity production this week. We have our dress rehearsal on Monday and then the show for parents on Thursday 15th December at 10am. We hope to see you all there! On Friday the children enjoyed a brilliant Christmas crafts afternoon and parents were invited in. This week has been AMAZING! The children really impressed everybody with their Nativity performance and they have written some brilliant Christmas list poems. Remember it's the Christmas party on Monday - bring your party clothes Year 1!

W/C 2nd January
We have had a brilliant first week back after the Christmas holidays. The children have really impressed me with their attitude to learning and their enthusiasm. We have started our new topic about Robin Hood and Sherwood Forest and this week we have thought about the similarities and differences between Sherwood Forest and Bilsthorpe. In Maths we have started learning how to tell the time.
W/C 9th January
This week in Maths we have been learning the days of the week and months of the year in order. We learnt a days of the week song that I'm sure your children would love to share with you. We have also written our legend about Robin Hood and I must say that the children really impressed me! Through topic we looked at the actions of Robin Hood and thought about whether we think he was a good or bad person. We then wrote him a letter telling him what he should have done instead of stealing. Another great week Year 1!
W/C 16th January
This week the children have been innovating their Robin Hood stories. They changed the adjectives, some openers and some verbs. Here is a story that we changed together:
We had our first Forest Walk of the year on Friday and the children made some amazing winter journey sticks!
W/C 23rd January
We have written the ending to our Robin Hood story this week and the children are very proud of their finished product. On Friday we visited Bilsthorpe Library and enjoyed listening to a story and exploring the books they have to offer. Remember to keep reading at home Year 1! You need 4 signatures to earn your raffle ticket for the prize draw.
W/C 30th January
This week we have been working hard on our arithmetic skills and the children have really impressed me with their addition and subtraction working out. On Friday we had our whole school reward and came to school in our PJs. The parents were invited in to snuggle up with a book and it was great fun!
W/C 6th February
This week the children have been showing off their Maths and Writing skills. They have written some amazing stories and I am very proud of all of them! Have a brilliant half term Year 1.
W/C 20th February
This week we have been measuring in Maths. We have used rulers to measure in cm and looked at a range of other measuring equipment that can measure length. We then thought about which equipment we would use to measure different objects in the classroom. In English we have started learning our recount about Robin Hood and the children have picked out some brilliant words that they want to use in their own writing.
W/C 27th February
It was World Book Day this week and the children got to dress up as their favourite book character. They had some amazing costumes. The children worked with other classes to study a book of their choice. It was a great day!

Friday 10th March - School trip to Sherwood Forest
Big Question: Would you survive as an explorer?
W/C 17th April
Welcome back! We hope you had a brilliant Easter break. The children have really impressed us with their enthusiasm for learning this week. We have started our explorers topic and we have thought about what we would take with us if we were going to explore a new place. We have also started looking at stories which have animals in and read 'Where the wild things are'. The children designed and created masks of new wild creatures that could be part of their stories. A great first week back!
W/C 24th April
This week Year 1 wrote their 'Where the wild things are' stories and we have been learning about adjectives and how to make our stories exciting for the reader. We also visited the library on Friday afternoon and the children really enjoyed listening to a story and exploring the great range of books at Bilsthorpe Library.
W/C 5th June
This week in English Year 1 have been exploring instructions. They have been reading and learning an instruction piece of text called 'How to catch an Alien!'. They found the text very funny and have loved using drama to act out the instructions. The children have spent some time in the art room drawing and painting a flag from around the world of their choice, as part of our topic. I am super impressed with what they have created! I have really enjoyed my first week here and the children have been great!
W/C 12th June
This week in our topic we have been looking at a hot and cold climate. We spent lots of time looking at Antarctica! The children and I had a brilliant discussion on how to live out in a place like the Antarctica. The children gave suggestions on how we could get and make our food, how we could keep warm and how we would keep ourselves from being bored out there!
W/C 19th June
This week has been super busy for our Year 1's! They had class photos outside on the field and it was extremely hot but we did a great job at staying still and showing a big smile for the photo! On Wednesday we had a lucky visit from the Bee man! He came to talk to us all about Bee's and why they are so important to us. We were extremely lucky to be able to try some honey that the bee's had made! It was very yummy and a lot of us really enjoyed it! To top of a very busy week, on Thursday we had our Sports Day and what a brilliant day it was. All the children joined in so willingly and it was so brilliant to see them all cheering each other on and giving them support. I was very proud of each and every one of them!
W/C 3rd July
This week we have had a brilliant week of learning. We learnt all about the story 'Jonah and the Whale!' and the children really enjoyed it. To finish of a fantastic week, we went on our family forest walk. The children went on their very own Minibeast hunt! They managed to find all sorts of Minibeasts! They found Beetles, Butterflys, Ants, Spiders and even some tiny Woodlice! It was lovely to have some parents and grandparents join us on our walk too!
