Year 6
Welcome to Year 6
We are a curious, hard-working team who love getting stuck into a discussion or problem. We work well as a team to overcome hurdles and support one another with our learning. We are working on being the best version of ourselves, especially now that we are at the 'top' of the school. We're excited for this to be our best year yet!
Our enquiry-based approach in Year 6 takes children on a journey of memorable learning through rich and purposeful experiences, culminating in authentic outcomes which leave a legacy on the wider world. Our curriculum ensures we are teaching for long term memory. Our key purpose is to build semantic memory to pass on the knowledge built up over years. In Year 6, we continue to develop our pupils’ independence, resilience and aspirations; knowledge and understanding of the wider world and vocabulary through our “WAVE“ Curriculum Principles (Wider World, Aspiration, Vocabulary and Enjoyment).
Please see our newsletter for further information about our curriculum.
Mrs Pavier and Mrs Pitts are our teachers and Miss Smith is our teaching assistant.
We hope that you find our class page useful by exploring the fantastic learning that takes place in Year 6.
Polite Reminders & Key Information:
Timings of the school day:
8.50am - children are met by their teacher on the playground and enter the Y6 classroom through the top door
3.20pm - children will be released via the top door.
Labelling:
All items brought into school should be labelled with the child's name (including bags, uniform and coats). Children are responsible for their garments and equipment. Having names on clothing makes it much easier for us to return these to the right person.
PE – Wednesday and Friday:
Children need to ensure that they have the correct PE kit on these days. The school PE kit is a plain white t-shirt, blue/black shorts or jogging bottoms and plimsolls or trainers. No earrings or jewellery are allowed to be worn during PE lessons.
Lunchtimes:
Pupils in year 6 eat in the main hall at 12:00pm before spending the rest of the hour’s lunch break on the school playground (or field in the dry summer months). As we are a healthy school, please provide a healthy lunchbox if your child is having a packed lunch.
Medication:
If your child has any medical conditions which require medication, (e.g. inhalers), please could we ask you to go to the school office to fill in a medication form first, and then we can keep the medication in school and first aid trained staff will be able to administer it when applicable.
Contact Details:
Please keep the school office updated with all your current contact details, so that we can contact you directly and keep you updated with all school matters.
