Year 1
In Year 1 we are curious and inquisitive learners who always seek to know more. Over the year, we begin to gain a greater understanding of the world around us and how the past before us has shaped the world we live in today. We learn all about the world around us to develop our understanding of people and places, through our carefully crafted curriculum.
We are also phonics superstars! We are always working hard on our phonics and reading to help us throughout
Above all, we are determined and confident. We know that together we can achieve anything.
Our class teacher is Miss Walters. Our teaching assistants are Mrs Wilson, Miss Monger and Miss Frost. We love being the Year 1 team and spending each day with our lovely class!
Polite Reminders & Key Information:
Timings of the school day:
8.50am - children line up on the playground where they are met by the Year 1 team.
3.20pm - children will be released via the top door onto the playground, to their trusted adult.
Phonics screening:
All Year 1 children take part in the Phonics Screening Check in which the children are tested on their phonics knowledge, decoding and blending. This is a mandatory check for all year 1 children in the country. This is one of our biggest priorities this year to ensure all children have the best chance possible of passing. This year's check is the week commencing 8th June 2026.
Labelling:
All items brought into school should be labelled with the child's name (including bags and coats). Children are responsible for their garments and equipment. Having names on clothing makes it much easier for us to return these to the right person.
PE - Monday and Wednesday:
Children need to ensure that they have the correct PE kit on this day. The school PE kit is a plain white t-shirt, blue/black shorts or jogging bottoms and plimsolls or trainers. No earrings or jewellery are allowed to be worn during PE lessons. Children need to come to school in their PE kits and they will stay in these all day. This helps maximise our PE time to make the most of our learning.
Lunchtimes:
Year 1 children will go into the hall to eat their packed lunches or school dinners. After that, they will have a session of outside play, supervised by our midday supervisors. As we are a healthy school, please provide a healthy lunchbox if your child is having a packed lunch.
Medication:
If your child has any medical conditions which require medication, e.g. inhalers. Please could we ask you to go to the school office to fill in a medication form first, and then we can keep the medication in school and first aid trained staff will be able to administer it when applicable.
Contact Details:
Please keep the school office updated with all your current contact details, so that we can contact you directly and keep you updated with all school matters.
