Curriculum
Our enquiry-based approach in Year 5 takes children on a journey of memorable learning through rich and purposeful experiences, culminating in authentic outcomes which leave a legacy on the wider world. Our curriculum ensures we are teaching for long-term memory. Our key purpose is to build semantic memory to pass on the knowledge built up over the years. Each term, there is a different 'driver' subject as well as other 'enhancer' subjects: our key driver in the autumn term is history, in the spring term, its geography followed by arts in the summer term.
In Year 5 we follow our WAVE curriculum principles (wider world, aspiration, vocabulary and enjoyment), which aim to underpin our lessons giving pupils independence, resilience and aspirations.
Autumn Term Enquiry Question: Is invasion always a negative experience?
In history, we will be learning about key events during Anglo-Saxon Britain and about the Vikings. As historians, we will learn how to link reliable sources of information together and ask relevant questions to help deepen our understanding.
